GIS Data

GIS data depict wells, streams, or watershed boundary locations, and soil and vegetation type maps. Each data contains attributes that identify and describe each feature. A map of the SEF with the most used shapefiles can be accessed through an icon on the shapefile table.

File Name Description Metadata View on Map
Hydrology Instrumentation Raingauges, automatic recording wells, weather stations, and stream gauges on the SEF metadata
Roads The roads on the SEF designated as open to motorized use and displayed on the 2010 Motor Vehicle Use Map. metadata
SEF_Boundary The SEF boundary encompasses 2469 hectares which was set aside in 1937 for forest research within the Francis Marion National Forest (FMNF). metadata
Soils This data set is the SSURGO digital soil survey provided by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. metadata
Forest Stands Vegetation polygons (also known as 'stands') extracted from the NRIS FSVeg Spatial application for the Francis Marion and Sumter National Forest. metadata
Streams Streams on the Santee Experimental forest, generated by USGS Topo maps. metadata
Topography Contour lines at 3 meter intervals for the SEF, digitized in 2007 from the USGS 1:24,000 Topographic map of Berkeley County. metadata
Wetlands The dataset indicates the various types of wetlands in the Santee Experimental Forest in Berkeley County, SC. The original data was downloaded from the Fish and Wildlife Service and clipped to the boundaries of the forest. metadata
WS77_Boundary The WS77 boundary encompasses 150.7 hectares of a treatment watershed within the SEF. Many research studies have been conducted within this watershed and experimental plots still exist. Watershed 77 and the weir at its outlet were established in 1963. metadata
WS79_Boundary The WS80 boundary encompasses 159.6 hectares of a control watershed within the SEF. Watershed 80 and the weir at its outlet were established in 1968. The boundary was November 6, 2001, when a culvert was installed across Yellowjacket Road draining a portion of Watershed 80 into Watershed 79, thus reducing its area. metadata
WS80_Boundary The WS79 boundary encompasses 475.2 hectares of a watershed within the SEF. This watershed includes WS77, WS80, and the forest land in between the two smaller watersheds. Watershed 79 and the weir at its outlet were established in 1966. metadata
SEF_Lidar Bare Earth and First Return LiDAR data of the metadata SEF was created in 2007 by Photo Science, Inc. The data contains a number of text files with X, Y, and Z geographic coordinates. Bare Earth and First Return digital image files were created from this LiDAR data. (LARGE FILE MAY TAKE 20 MINUTES TO DOWNLOAD) metadata
Bridges Bridge locations on the SEF. These areas house many hydrologic studies metadata
Compartments Locations of the various compartments in the SEF. The various compartments include private property, administrative areas, and the managed property of the Forest. metadata
Land_Cover Vegetation classes created by the USGS and SCDNR on the SEF as derived from animal habitat characterization and biodiversity conservation assessment. metadata
LIDAR_Streams Streams located on the SEF, generated from LIDAR data. metadata
Manual Wells Groundwater wells on the SEF, where water level is measured manually. metadata
RCW_Habitat_Mgt_Area This dataset indicates the boundaries for the Habitat Management Area for the endangered Red Cockaded Woodpecker within the SEF. metadata
RCW _Trees Location of the Red Cockaded Woodpecker nesting trees on the SEF. The RCW is an endangered species according to the US Fish and Wildlife Service. metadata
Stands_1983 The dataset identifies the pre-Hurricane Hugo stand delineation for the Santee Experimental Forest. The stands were delineated from 1:12,000 color infrared photographs. The purpose of the dataset is for past assessment of timber stands within the boundaries of the Santee Experimental Forest. metadata
Stands_1989 The dataset indicates the post-Hurricane Hugo stand delineation for the Santee Experimental Forest. The delineations were made from 1:12,000 color infrared photographs. The purpose of the data is to indicate how tree size and stands were altered after Hurricane Hugo in 1989. metadata
Stands_1996 The dataset indicates the stands within the SEF based on 1990 inventory. metadata
Stands_2003 The deliniation and characteristics of forest stands within the SEF in 2003. This unpublished data was received from the Region 8 Supervisor's Office in Columbia, SC in Feb 2012. metadata
Stands_2005 The deliniation and characteristics of forest stands within the SEF in 2005. This unpublished data was received from the Region 8 Supervisor's Office in Columbia, SC in Feb 2012. metadata
Stands_2008 The deliniation and characteristics of forest stands within the SEF in 2008. This unpublished data was received from the Region 8 Supervisor's Office in Columbia, SC in Feb 2012. metadata
STATSGO_Soils This data set was developed by the National Cooperative Soil Survey and distributed by the Natural Resources Conservation Service. It consists of a broad based inventory of soils and nonsoil areas that occur in a repeatable pattern on the landscape. metadata
Trails Recreation trails located on the SEF. metadata
Well_Transects Three groundwater well transects on the SEF, where water level is measured to show the effect of prescribed burning or thinning on the water level below the soil surface. metadata
WS78 Boundary Boundary of Watershed 78, also known as, the Turkey Creek Watershed. The boundary was corrected in 2009, after LIDAR DEM data was evaluated to identify bridges, culverts, and flowlines. metadata
