Description:

Abstract:

Roads located on the Santee Experimental Forest. This feature class includes roads designated as open to motorized use and displayed on the 2010 Motor Vehicle Use Map. The road routes were dynamically segmented using the II_MVUM_ROAD_ALLOW Oracle view.

Purpose:

A road is a motor vehicle travel way over 50 inches wide, unless classified and managed as a trail. A road may be classified or unclassified. Classified roads are roads within National Forest System lands planned and managed for motor vehicle access including State roads, county roads, private roads, permitted roads, and Forest Service roads. Unclassified roads are roads not intended to be a part of nor managed as a part of the forest transportation system, such as temporary roads, and unplanned, unengineered, unauthorized off-road vehicle tracks and abandoned travel ways. Route measurements and route directions must correspond to those stored in the Infra Oracle table RTE_BASICS.

February 2012: The data was downloaded by Julie Arnold of the SEF from the Francis Marion/Sumter National Forest GIS website: http://www.fs.usda.gov/main/scnfs/landmanagement/gis and then clipped to the SEF boundary. The metadata was edited for the SEF database. March 10, 2010 - Corrected numerous calibration errors (mainly roads that didn't have any M measures). November/December 2009 - Routes for Interstates, US Highways, State Highways, and county/local roads provided by the South Carolina Department of Transporation were incorporated into this feature class. Major routes throughout the state were included for all route types except county/local roads. For these roads, only those in and around the forest were included. Most of these routes were added/modified in Infra and linked to Infra. - Geoff Holden FY09 Q4 - Edits were made on routes in and around all 4 ranger districts. Each route was calibrated based on the BMP and EMP found in Infra. Directionality was checked using beginning and ending terminus information found in Infra and adjusted when necessary. Route features were cropped or extended to match Infra lengths when the correct length could be determined in the DOQ. Roads in Infra but not in GIS were identified and added to GIS when possible. The Forests' paper road atlas were used extensively to identify missing roads. 8/12/2009 - Road features found in the 'road' feature class in FMSSDE.SDE.std_map on the FMS GIS server were loaded into this feature class. All attributes in the source feature class that could crosswalk into this feature class were also loaded.
