Title:
Santee Experimental Forest Santee Headquarters 15-Minute Ozone Data, 2008-2012.- Geospatial_Data_Presentation_Form: database
-
Description:
-
-
Abstract:
- Starting April 1, 2008 15-minute average ozone (parts per billion by volume, or ppbv), 15-minute maximum ozone (ppbv), 15-minute minimum ozone (ppbv), and the standard deviation of the 15-minute average ozone measurement (ppbv) were collected at the Santee Headquarters weather station using a Model 202 Ozone Monitor manufactured by 2B Technologies, Inc (2100 Central Ave., Suite 105, Boulder, Colorado 80301 http://www.twobtech.com/). Because of multiple instrument malfunctions, ozone monitoring ceased in April 2012 and has not yet been resumed.
-
Purpose:
- The purpose of the data set is to provide researchers with 15-minute measurements of average, maximum and minimum ozone concentration, as well as the standard deviation of the 15-minute average measurement, at the Santee Headquarters weather station, located adjacent to the headquarters offices and laboratories of the Santee Experimental Forest.

Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
- Ambient ozone concentration is measured every 10 seconds by the 202 Monitor and 15-minute average, maximum and minimum ozone concentration and the standard deviation of the 15-minute average are recorded. The 202 Monitor is linked to a Campbell Scientific CR1000 datalogger, which logs the above data as well as battery voltage, external/internal temperature, and monitor and fan status. Every three days at 0:10 hours the instrument begins a 20-minute interval of measuring ozone concentration in air that has been passed through an ozone scrubber. At 0:30 hours this data is recorded as the zero value for the various ozone parameters. The zero values for 15-minute average ozone concentration are then used to correct the remaining data (by first creating a set of interpolated zero values spanning each period between zero measurements and then subtracting these values from the ozone data at their respective time points). When this correction process results in negative values for ozone concentration these values are recorded as zero.

Methodology_Description:
- Ozone data is downloaded directly to a laptop computer using PC200 software. After the data has been downloaded, a lamp test is performed to assess the operating status of the 202 Monitor.
-
Process_Step:
-
-
Process_Description:
- The downloaded ozone data is electronically plotted to check for outliers. Zero point ozone data are entered into a separate spreadsheet (and deleted from the overall data set).

Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
- Variables included in the datasets SEF_ozone_2008_2010.xlsx, SEF_ozone_2011.xlsx and SEF_ozone_2012.xlsx:
Location = instrument location (HQ Office = Santee Headquarters);
Instr_ID = instrument name (O3_monitor = 202 Ozone Monitor);
Date_time_ = instantaneous date and time that data were recorded (format MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM);
Date_ave = date associated with averaged/maximum/minimum data (format MM/DD/YYYY);
Time24_ave = nearest quarter hour associated with averaged/maximum/minimum data (0.25 to 24);
Ave_O3 (alias 'Average Ozone') = 15-minute average O3 concentration, in ppbv;
Max_O3 (alias 'Maximum Ozone') = 15-minute maximum O3 concentration, in ppbv;
Min_O3 (alias 'Minimum Ozone') = 15-minute minimum O3 concentration, in ppbv;
Std_Dev_O3 (alias 'Standard Deviation') = 15-minute standard deviation of average O3 concentration, in ppbv; and
Code (alias 'Code') = code indicating data status (G = good; I = invalid because of instrument malfunction; M = missing because instrument removed for repair and/or calibration; P = instrument operational for only part of 15-minute period, so use with caution; S = spike resulting from occasional lamp irregularity; and Z = ozone zeroing time point).
All missing data were originally assigned the value "-9999"; during database development this code was changed to "null"
